Completely satisfiedAug 18, 2006
By slynn This pedometer is surprisingly small and lightweight, yet the display is easy to read. I appreciate the safety leash since I can forget I am wearing it! It tells me everything I need to know-steps taken, calories burned, and distance walked. I've used it to establish a baseline of my activity and now to improve upon that.

5 Stars for Accuracy, 3 for UseabilityJul 29, 2007
By itsjustmyopinion I purchased the Accusplit AH190M28 pedometer several months ago because I was looking for an accurate pedometer. I wear it everywhere, almost every day. Previously, I used a pedometer that I received as an incentive to join a walking program, and it added 10-15 steps when it was jiggled. The Accusplit pedometer, is in contrast, extremely accurate. I have taken the time to calibrate it, and every so often, I check its accuracy when I walk on measured surfaces (track and field). I feel confident that the numbers the pedometer shows me at the end of the day what I've walked.
This paticular model offers many bells and whistles as it measures distance, calories burned, steps, rate of speed, and offers 7-day memory and timer. I find myself, however, just using the number of steps and the 7-day memory, but it's nice to see the other numbers.
While the accuracy of the product is outstanding and 5-star, its useability hovers at 3-stars. As people have noted, the pedometer's directions are poorly written at best (you can view them in advance at the Accusplit website), and the programming of the device is not very intuitive. It's not overly confusing to calibrate the pedometer or set up its clock, it's just that it is not as user-friendly as it could be. For intstance, I was looking forward to using the timer feature, but found it to be one of the most cumbersome features to use, which is odd because Accusplit also manufactures terrific timers. To use the timer one must open the pedometer's front panel, forward to the timer, and hit the right button. I expected just one button on the front cover to start and stop the timer It would have also been useful if the device came with an illuminated backlight.
I strongly recommend using the leash in addition to the metal clip. Even though the metal clip is stronger than many other pedometer clips (the metal is strong and doesn't crack like the cheaper plastic clips), it does slip off the waistband. The leash has saved my pedometer on many more than one occasion.
One thing to note is that I am able to wear the pedometer on a daily basis because I wear waistband clothes. A friend of mine who wears only dresses could not find a place to clip the pedometer. There are other pedometers that can be clipped to underwear or placed in purses. I am not sure if that is possible with this one (I've never tried it).
If you're looking for an extremely accurate pedometer (and don't mind taking the time to figure out the directions--again they are not impossible, just unclear), then this is an excellent choice.

This brand comes highly recommended for its accuracy which is why I purchased it. I was surprised to see how small it is when I got it (it is about 2 and a half inches long). There is a bit of setup with this model if you want to use all of its features. The main one is to enter your stride length so steps can be monitored accuratly. There are instructions on how to calculate this in the manual. This product automatically resets the counter at 3:50am every morning and stores steps taken, calories burned, distance, etc... into 1 of 28 memory banks so you can recall them easily, thus it is important to set the time accuratly as well. Some areas for improvement are the safety leash. I highly recommen using the safety leash as I find the clip slipping off my pants as the day goes on. The plastic safety clip is so tight that it broke the first time I tried to attach it. The metal safety clip works much better. You also have to be a little creative when attaching the safety leash as the leash is provided but there is no loop on the pedometer itself to attach it too. I looped it arround the paints clip a few times but I would have rather seen a loop provided like cameras have where you attach the strap. I give this unit only 3 stars as there are cheaper models out there.

This pedometer was rated by Prevention magazine as the top pedometer for accuracy of steps and ease of use. You will not miss steps using this model. The lease prevents it from getting knocked off during vigorous use. Best model overall.

The quest continues -- Belly people, take noteSep 29, 2006

I too bought this for its reputation for accuracy. But I'll never know because, like the Sportlines, it has to find a level spot on your belt. I have no level spaces on my belt, at least not in front. I really wanted to find something to replace the Omron HJ112, which is accurate in spite of everuything but too bulky for everday use. Also, since I had to destroy the bubble wrap to open it and test it, I didn't bother trying to return it. I gave it to someone much leaner than myself, but the catch on the lid is so tight she can't open it.
