It's a batting helmet - the finish is poor - the construction is greatMay 24, 2011

The helmet looks great new, but with a 3 month season, it didn't hold up cosmetically. We ordered the flat black. The thing looked great out of the box. A nine year old going to 2 practices a week and having one to two games a week in a dugout, I am less than impressed with the way the finish held up. It looks like the clear coat of a 1970's car after baking 30 years in the desert.
The helmet is comfortable and offers good protection. My son has taken a few hits to the head with wild pitches and the helmet did its job. I would rather have a helmet with a poor finish and a safe kid than a great looking broken helmet and an injured child.
Safety of the helmet: 5 stars
