4All rugs are not equalMay 30, 2010
By Jennifer
I own two of these rugs, one in sunshine and one in moab, and they are not the same. The moab seems thicker and has a band of textured pattern across the top and bottom, perfect for the extra grip you need in down dog. The sunshine, which I ordered second, is a little more stretchy and doesn't have the additional textured bands. It puckers and bunches during my practice, especially where I have damped it to make it less slippery. It's not terrible, but it is distracting. I would rate the moab a 5 and the sunshine about a 3+. From the pictures it looks to me like the sorbet and possibly the wasabi (you can see it better on Zappos) are similar to the sunshine, and the caribbean is like the moab. So I would recommend the last two more than the others.

4great for apartment yoga practiceMar 10, 2008
By ELLE DORADO "ellester"
I got this on sale for $23 and it's really worth that price. You can use it on carpets in your apartment and it won't buckle and move like a sticky mat. Mist it down with water for more traction.

5Good texture, basic, practicalApr 30, 2010
By Robert J. Flick
Always wanted to give the yoga rug a shot. I practice a lot of Ashtanga Yoga, and was tired of getting my feet stuck on my vinyasa's. This thing feels so much better on my skin than a regular mat. Be warned, however, that it is (obviously) less sticky, and your more challenging poses will be made that much harder. Also, rugs have almost zero padding, and take some getting used to for poses that put lots of pressure on shoulders, neck, and head. Be careful. I use a 3 mm mat underneath my rug when I know I'll be upside down.

1So slippery it is dangerous!Dec 08, 2011
By Rob M
I recently returned the Moab after using it one week. There is NOTHING more frustrating than having your feet slide out when trying to figure out poses--especially the standing ones with legs spread apart (that just keep on speading since it is so slippery). I got some relief by spraying the sections where my feet to with water, but the water would quickly dry just at the wrong time and I'd have to break concentration to add more. Then I decided to soak it, which works but makes your place smell like stinking wet yoga mat and might not always be doable in a led session.

I am a beginner to Ashtanga Yoga, but found this polished cotton mat the most dangerous of the five I have purchased recently looking for the golden mat that stay non-slippery both when soaked in sweat and when dry. I was so hopeful having heard so many good things about the 'mysore' style of yoga mats. Personally, I believe people talk about how wonderful they are only because it is what Guruji recommends but I just can't believe he would ever endorse this dangerous junk. Save yourself the frustration and pain and look for another one, perhaps a different mysore cotton mat will be better than this particular brand.

5Near Perfect Yoga RugJun 20, 2009
By Brian Bridson
I've been using this Yoga rug for a few weeks. I love the fact that it's 100% cotton and I love the size; I use it on top of my Yoga mat and it's a couple of inches longer and wider than the mat, which is perfect. Being 6'1, this gives me just enough room that I can stretch out in Shavasana and still keep my head and feet on the rug. I also like the additional cushioning the rug on top of the mat gives me. I purchased this rug because my hands and feet would slip on my mat once I built up a sweat. As other reviews have pointed out, this rug is slippery when dry. I've found that I need to fold back the top and bottom one-third until I build up a sweat, then I fold them out. I like the Sunshine colors, so I've washed the rug in cold water on a gentle cycle with a product designed to prevent colors from fading, and then hang-dried it. So far it has laundered fine. I guess my only slightly negative comment would be that this rug is a little heavy to carry back and forth to class. But you really wouldn't want it any lighter and still stay in place during your practice. The Yogitoes skidless towel would be another product to consider; it's lightweight but far more expensive than the Hugger Mugger rug, and would not offer the additional cushioning.
