This is a beautiful jewlery box; one of the best I've seen. Good musical jewelry boxes are difficult to find these days, especially for a child.
I hemmed and hawed over buying this and one of the ones made of re-enforced cardboard or plastic, but my decision became easy when I saw some of the 'cheaply' made ones at a couple of toy stores nearby. This Lenox product was an excellent buy: metal, nice velour innards, sturdy ballerina and hinges. I'm considering buying one for my teen daughter and engraving her name on it.
My niece (5 yrs old) had received 4 ballerina jewelry boxes for Christmas, so she wasn't as thrilled with getting another when she unwrapped the one from me. My sister was thrilled though. She said she will keep the box for my niece until the others (plastic and paper) break, which won't take too long. LOL

This is a gorgeous jewelry box. I was searching for one for my new granddaughter, and am so glad that I chose this one by Lenox. My grandson couldn't stop staring at the dancing ballerina! Everyone loved it. It's definitely a keeper! Highly recommend this product. Outstanding craftsmanship and quality.

I bought three of these boxes for my grandchildren although I was concerned by some reviews suggesting that the ballerina mechanism was faulty. One of my grandchildren has wanted a music box for a long time and kept reminding me so I thought I'd give her one and I thought I'd better buy one for her sisters too. I gave my grandchildren the boxes the day before I left for overseas and of course, what happened was the child who really wanted a music box received the one with a ballerina that didn't work. She was in tears until her father (an engineer) managed to fix it. However, I doubt that the mechanism will last so I wouldn't recommend these boxes. I would have thought that, given the adverse feedback about the mechanism, the company would have taken action to fix the problem.

Ordered this item for my daughter for Christmas, it arrived and the music didn't work. Another one was sent out to me a few weeks later, and the ballerina worked for maybe a week before she stopped spinning around. I'm horribly disappointed with this product and would NOT recommend it to anyone. It was between this Lenox and a Reed & Barton and I'm sorry I didn't go with the Reed & Barton. Total piece of junk.
Update: The lid stopped closing properly when it was about 5 months old. The ballerina still doesn't spin. And my daughter doesn't use this as a toy, it is used only to store her jewelry. I"m so surprised by all the 5 star reviews...how did i get 2 bad ones?

Looked at quite a few of these and finally decided to go for this one. It is really pretty and most importantly seems sturdy enough for a 3 1/2 year old!! It is much nicer than most wooden / cardboard ones. I always expect them to be a little bit larger, but I guess this is the size they come in. All in all, this jewelry box seems to be the best buy out there.
