Best piece of equipment I have ever purchased!Jul 14, 2008
By Betty This is the best piece of equipment I have ever purchased! It is definately the new age way to exercise. Those heavy weights will become a thing of the past. I have a complete home gym with weights, stair stepper, bike, treadmill etc.. My arms were starting to look bad because I was traveling alot and could not find the time to workout so I bought this to take on the road and was I surprised at how quickly my muscles started to pop! Get rid of all of those bulky weights that could also do some harm and injury. You can use this anywhere...even in bed! I have purchased many items that I have returned which did not work. Actually, I liked this so much that I was getting ready to purchase another for my daughter and could not believe that there was only one review so I thought I should give it another. It only takes a few minutes a few times a week using this piece of equipment for your arme to look great!

Portability and IntelligenceApr 24, 2008

I own the the Slendertone Electronic Muscle Stimulator. I saw this product on their website, for about $20 more than on Amazon. I had a gap in my workout routine between Martial Arts class, Total Gym (yes I will buy what Chuck tells me to), and the post workout use of the EMS unit.
When I use the EMS stim unit, I often will walk around the house. I wanted to get a tandem resistance routine with the EMS running. Oftentimes, if I try to get in a Total Gym workout at the same time, it is disconcerting.
I purchased this product to get upper body resistance training in while at the same time running an EMS routine. The motion is very simple. Being driven by a piston. The unit will measure how much force you apply on the reps while you perform the excercise. It also tracks and customizes a workout routine for you which is changing to suit.
One knock on the product is in the User interface. I had to read the manual twice before grasping 1) How to set the excercise the program calls for. 2) Which program I wanted to use to achieve my objective. Once past this, I became very happy with it.

Great product,at a great price, and a awesome workout. The Fortex,is no toy,it is a Push-Pull device, and it will challenge every fitness level.Try doing two sets of the eight exercises, and you will feel it the next day,I promise you.Its portable, light, and it will adapt to your strength,so Anatomical Adaptibilty, will not set in.

Not a useful gizmoJan 18, 2009

It's basically a pneumatic tube...like a bicycle tire pump. You're supposed to hold it horizontally and either push the pump in, or pull it out...either in front of your chest, or behind your back. In other words, (a) you can do only a couple of exercises with it, (b) you don't get much range of motion so it's not a good workout even for the exercises you can do, (c) it feels like and is as much fun to use as a tire pump.
It has some simple electronics that counts your reps and how hard you're pressing. That doesn't make it worth buying. This is not a useful addition to your exercise toolset.

One major flawOct 05, 2010
By JWard I purchased this a while back and it is good for toning, however, you will not build muscle mass with this product. It shows you how much force you have applied after each rep and because it does not offer resistance in its own method (it gives back resistance the harder you use it), it is very hard to keep the actual force you are lifting the same. For instance, the pec workout they suggest involves holding the device infront of you and squeezing the two handles together. The harder you squeeze, the more resistance. It will then say how many lbs of thrust you exerted. Each time, it will usualy be slightly different. Now, this exercise is obviously replicating a dumbell fly. However, the range of motion is minute compared to that you can get doing dumbell flys, and with dumbell flys you are lifting a set weight each time, and increasing that weight, FORCES you to increase your effort level, something that is very difficult to do with the fortex upper body trainer. For this reason, I see the slendertone fortex as a waste of money. Invest in a set of dumbells. All of the exercises done on the fortex upper body trainer can be done more effectively with dumbells for half the price!
