 Decent Little Goal.May 31, 2011

This set is an ok little set for a child. The goal is the best part of the set and why I bought it. It's made of metal is visually nice and durable. It doesn't come with stakes but you could buy some to help keep it stationary. It's fine though without them. Something I didn't think about is that this isn't the type of goal that is easily broken down and stored. If I had, I probably would have bought one that can be broken down easily. I thought with the other peices this might be a nice set. A big selling point for me was the full size soccer ball shown in the stock photo and on the box. The soccer ball that actually came with the set is very small. It's the size a 1-2 year old would play with. It is not the soccer ball pictured. I had to subtract stars for that b/c I wasn't planning to buy a separate soccer ball. I'll post a pic of it with a blue size 4 soccer ball. The hockey sticks are small and lite. They are plastic and not the stiffest most durable but ok for a child. I'm not sure how much abuse they would take on concrete. The puck is lite plastic and the "pitch back ball" is a cheap blue tennis ball. The pitch back works fine for a child but a coordinated 6 year old will probably need something more substantial. I bought my set at Toys R US for $39. Being just $39 I don't think I can knock this set too much. If it cost $50 or more I'd definitely expect a full size soccer ball(at least a 3), wooden hockey sticks and a rubber softball for pitch back.

We bought this for my eldest son's fourth birthday. When I opened it to put it together before the big day I was happily surprised to find all of the additional equipment. I guess I didn't research this as well as I thought. We also bought him a soccer ball because we needed a specific size (the size he will be using when he is on the team this year). The hockey sticks and puck were a great hit and I love the fact this gets him outside and moving and having fun. I think as he gets older he will get more enjoyment out of it and I recommend this for any parent who wants to get their kids outside and moving!

We gave this to the kids as a birthday present (10 and 4 yrs old).
First the positive:
It came with everything listed as included. The hockey sticks were fairly sturdy and the overall construction of the frame was too. It is a great size for most kids under 10 yrs, fitting perfectly in our smaller backyard, and is also small enough to pick up and move with zero effort, or put into the car for trips to the park/beach/etc. Works fine with regular sized balls as well as the included ones.
Next, downsides:
Putting the thing together was a pain. The instructions aren't clear and because of that, it was put together backwards before we got it right. In addition, getting the black tabs to hold the netting down is difficult at best. It seems to be a less than stellar design, but I suppose it isn't supposed to be Olympic quality. Once together, we've had to adjust the netting a few times, however, it isn't enough to be endlessly frustrating. The soccer ball, as mentioned, is tiny. Only appropriate for 5 yrs and under.
Would purchase again for the same purpose. It gets used 2-3 a month and has held up pretty well considering the elements and the kids.

The goal was relatively easy to put together even though the instructions were not written clearly. It works very well as a soccer goal. If that is your only intention than it would be closer to five stars. The throwback ability however does not work well. When we first attached the net it was great. The tension was strong and the ball bounced right back, however after a day or less the net stretched. No more tension. It stretched enough that it slips out of some of the hooks holding it in place. Good as a soccer goal.

The price can't be beat for something like this. My daughter is a bit small for this but she likes to kick her various sized bouncy balls back and forth with us, so I thought this would be ideal. on the other hand she'll be able to grow into it instead of the usual other way around. She also likes the concept of the hockey sticks and puck. She likes that Daddy plays. And although she may not become athletic from this one toy, it's exposure to different types of active fun that she'll most benefit from. A lot of running and laughing with this toy. Easy set up once you get the hang of it. Seems durable and sturdy enough that I'm satisfied. The pitchback works great too. Lots of fun for me as well. Get it yourself and see what I mean.
