TYR brand is far superior to other brands in today's pool waterOct 12, 2011
By Ramon J. Cook 1. TYR swim gloves add welcome, tune-able (*more, another time) resistance to those of us handicapped who must work out in water to be able to work out at all. 2. Water Aerobics or Water tai chi exercise series which I use are much-enhanced with wide (not necessarily "long" or rigid-type) swim gloves. I am restrained by age (80) and years on construction jobsites (65) to "soft" (and, non-shock) exercising. I cannot do it, on a flat, open floor. Water is it. TYR helps, and best! Even lap swimming is enhanced, in both aerobic + calorie-using aspects. 3. Speedo brand does not last in today's no-chlorine-gas pools. Speedo excels in salt water. Today's no-chlorine water 'cleaners' include bleach (!), specified by the Department of Homeland Hysteria, and are taking over prior types. Also, Speedo's zipper-type is more loose in use, and doesn't last nearly as long as TYR's wide "Velcro" (TM) type. TYR also has a wider size range than Speedo. 4. TYR swim gloves are often mis-stocked in Academy stores as "exercise gloves" and put in the weight-lifting area. Dry weight workouts will shred these gloves quickly. My bar-type pull-ups, etc at pool-side don't seem to hurt any gloves. 5. TYR prices in-store are lower than Speedo and other brands. No-name China Specials are cheaper in many (big box & sporting goods) stores. You get what you pay for. The blue ones work pretty good. Fit + Velcro parts are poorer than TYR's. 6. I must "stop & go" buy another pair of black TYR's. They last about 2 years of my 2 -> 3 long, hard sessions per week, maybe 2.5 > 3 years. Bye!
